As the spouse or dependent child of a Veteran or service member, you may qualify for certain benefits, including health care, life insurance, or money for school. As the survivor of a Veteran or service member, you may qualify for added benefits, including help with burial costs and survivor compensation.
VA benefits for family and caregivers
If you are a veteran that is already enrolled in VA Healthcare and have a VA-authorized appointment, but need help with transportation to and from your VA healthcare appointment, VetRide (VA's Veteran Transportation Service) may be able to help you. You must make reservations at least one day in advance and a veteran may be accompanied by one caregiver, spouse or family member. Your VA facility must set up an account with VetRide for you in order to use this service and transportation is provided to the veteran free of charge or at very little cost. The VetRide service also has a mobile app that works with Apple or Android mobiles devices.

Veteran Services Office
The San Joaquin County VSO provides benefits and claims counseling by appointment only. An appointment is necessary as they want to give you ample time to collect important documents prior to your visit. They book your appointment for a full hour to ensure you and your family receive the assistance and attention you deserve and have uninterrupted time to ask any questions regarding your claim or process.
The VSO does offer walk-in services Monday-Thursday for Veteran DMV Driver's License/License Plate certification, applications for VA Healthcare, income verification letters, record requests and other items. You can call the number below to verify if a service you need can be handled on a walk-in basis.

VA Clinic French Camp
San Joaquin County veterans are fortunate to now have a state-of-the-art VA outpatient medical center in their local area. This VA center serves veterans residing in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Calaveras and Toulumne counties.
Situated at 6505 S. Manthey Rd. in French Camp, adjacent to Interstate 5 near San Joaquin General Hospital and the newly established Victory Gardens—a supportive housing project for homeless Veterans—the Richard A. Pittman VA Clinic offers primary care and specialty health services, including addiction and substance abuse treatment, mental health care, PTSD support, smoking cessation programs, and physical and occupational therapy.
The 158,000 square foot facility also provides surgical facilities, pharmacies and dental care.
